The Perfect Valentine’s Day gift: I need a Wife!

I am a deployed soldier’s wife. I have been where he is (literally, except Kandahar is a lot stinkier than where he is now). I have barely registered Valentine’s Day this year…between birthday parties, Carnevale season, dance classes, visitors, and daily life, it was easy to miss this year. But just in case, hubby is reading this, here’s what I would like for Valentine’s Day.

I pass on the chocolate as I can buy it myself. Forget the kitchen appliances as I’m trying to downsize in that department. Ditto for clothes. Romantic lingerie? Save it for the homecoming…that will make a great Mother’s Day gift to make up for the butcher block table and Kitchenaid mixer from years past.

This is all tongue in cheek of course…

But I could use a wife, every so often. Like once or twice a week. Not a housekeeper, not a personal assistant, not a mummy’s helper. A Wife.

Now that I’ve been doing the pseudo single parenthood duties for 9 months with a few more to go, I definitely could use a wife. Now, I pay my mummy’s helper/personal assistant a few euros an hour to give me a break, run to the market if needed, walk the dogs, and so on.

But seriously a wife to help out in the middle of the night would be quite nice. Someone to let the dogs out at 2 in the morning. Someone who intuitively knows what I need and when. Someone who plays with the dogs when I’m busy with Bella and supper and the rest of the evening routine. Someone who lets me sleep through the night and takes care of the night terrors, the dogs’ need to bark after quiet hours, the trash that needs to go out before dawn, the dead batteries, the shopping, the laundry, and so on. Someone to wipe little B’s butt after a bout of the runs. Someone to run to the extra fridge in the cellar to grab milk, juice, frozen bacon. You get the picture, don’t you?

Then I could blog happily in my PJs, drinking my coffee, uninterrupted by my precocious 4 year old’s improvisational singsong yelling followed quickly by “Mommy, can you please wipe my B-UHHHH-T?!!!!?”

Yes, dear, that would be the best Valentine’s gift, ever.
